Born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, Alexander L. Taylor, Jr. draws on a lifetime of service, integrity, and dedication to his community and clients. Inspired by the example of his father, an Army Master Sergeant, Alexander developed a strong sense of duty and resilience early on, which have become the cornerstones of his legal career.
Alexander’s educational background is distinguished by degrees from both the University of Virginia and the T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond, where he built the foundation for a career focused on justice and public service. His commitment to law began in the Army’s Judge Advocate General’s Corps (JAG), where he served nearly six years on active duty and continued as a dedicated member of the Army Reserve, achieving the esteemed rank of Colonel in 2007. During his military career, Alexander took on key leadership roles, including Commander of the 7th Legal Support Organization and Military Judge for the U.S. Army Reserve. His exceptional service earned him numerous accolades, including the Legion of Merit, before he retired in 2017 after 33 years of honorable service.
Alexander’s legal career has been marked by a steadfast commitment to upholding the law and advocating for justice. As an Assistant Attorney General for Virginia, he gained national recognition as an expert in extraditions and played a vital role in developing youth programs across the state. His work as a Senior Assistant Commonwealth Attorney in Richmond brought him into the public eye as a formidable prosecutor handling cases from larceny to murder, solidifying his reputation as a skilled and knowledgeable legal authority. Since founding his private practice in 2011, Alexander has been dedicated to representing clients in personal injury, criminal defense, and civil cases, serving clients across juvenile, general district, and circuit courts.
Alexander’s impact extends beyond the courtroom through his extensive community service. A proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and the Military Retirees Club, he co-founded Concerned Black Men of Richmond, Inc. in 1986, a mentoring organization for African American youth that continues to guide young men in the Richmond area. He has served as Chair of the March of Dimes Board of Directors and as President of the Old Dominion Bar Association, where he established the Oliver Hill Samuel Tucker Scholarship. In partnership with the Richmond Walter Ridley Scholarship, which he co-founded and chaired, Alexander has helped raise two million dollars for scholarships supporting Richmond-area African American students attending the University of Virginia.
